ISHKAR was founded in Kabul in 2016.

For the past decade we have worked with exceptional artisans in places which have often been overlooked due to real and perceived barriers to international trade.

Over time, we have come to specialise in rugs from Afghanistan. It is our strongly held view that today Afghanistan produces the world’s finest rugs, owing to the unique skills of its weavers, and their access to exceptional natural wool, silk and dyes.

Our mission is to make Afghanistan’s rugs a household name. And by doing so spread a more nuanced story about a country and people for whom there is often a single narrative.

While our online focus is exclusively on rugs and fabrics, we sell a variety of exquisite crafts in our London store and through quarterly online drops of jewellery.
