Story
THE DESIGN
The clean lines and modern sophistication of the Siwa Plissée Duvet Set makes it a versatile addition to any bedroom. Crafted from the highest quality 320-thread-count 100% Egyptian cotton percale, each piece is decorated with pleated borders and framed with beige corded piping. This superior quality cotton combines a soft, silky-smooth feel with the crispness and durability of a percale weave.

EGYPTIAN COTTON
Prized for its softness, strength and superior quality, Egyptian cotton has a long-established reputation of being the finest cotton in the world. Egyptian cotton can only be grown in very specific climates. With consistently warm summer months, cool nights and wonderfully fertile soil, the lush growing conditions of the Nile River Valley are perfect.
Although cotton was cultivated by the Ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago, the story of high quality Egyptian cotton begins in 1822, when Mohammed Ali, often referred to as the founder of modern Egypt, introduced the commercial production of cotton in Egypt. The quality became legendary, establishing a global reputation.

THE IMPACT
Malaika was founded in 2004 by Margarita Andrade and Goya Gallagher, who decided to utilise Egyptian cotton to produce high quality bed linen previously not available in the local market. As well as providing employment, Malaika’s embroidery school, Threads of Hope, trains dozens of vulnerable women, providing them with the skills required to be self-employed and work from home on commissions for Malaika.
