Story
THE DESIGN
Our second collaboration with Malaika draws inspiration from aerial shots of foods drying across different countries: apricots in Pakistan, dates in Egypt, pepper in China, grapes in Iran, tomatoes in Turkey. The images were then translated into colourful embroidered or printed motifs on this new collection of placemats and napkins.

THE TECHNIQUE
This collection celebrates the traditional technique of hand embroidery. Each napkin is delicately adorned with a two-tone running stitch border, also called 'Seraga'.

THE IMPACT
Malaika was founded in 2004 by Margarita Andrade and Goya Gallagher, who decided to utilise Egyptian cotton to produce high quality bed linen previously not available in the local market. As well as providing employment, Malaika’s embroidery school, Threads of Hope, trains dozens of vulnerable women, providing them with the skills required to be self-employed and work from home on commissions for Malaika.
