ISHKAR is hosting a print sale, bringing together award-winning photographers, artists, and photojournalists. Each have contributed images of an Afghanistan that we rarely see in the news. All proceeds from the sale of these prints will be donated to EMERGENCY Hospitals in Afghanistan; an amazing organization, providing free critical healthcare to one of the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Prints will be for sale online at special, one-off prices and available for a limited six week period: Saturday 8th August - Friday 25th September.

Prints will be dispatched after the sale closes.

I wound up with an extra day in Bamiyan with nothing planned, so with my friends Glenn and Sajjad, I went for a hike along the buddhas. We passed an assembly at the base setting up for a presidential rally for Abdullah Abdullah, which was held the following day.At the top of the cliff, just past the peak of the buddhas, on a plateau at dusk, all these kids were playing soccer. They were king enough to let me photograph the remainder of their match.

Story

The photographer

Nick Curran is a videographer based in Brooklyn, NY. His work has appeared on The Intercept, the New York Times, PBS, Teen Vogue and Means TV, among others. He traveled to Bamiyan, Afghanistan with Ishkar in the fall of 2019 as part of their photography workshop with Andrew Quilty.

THE IMPACT

Since 1999, EMERGENCY has established a network of hospitals, first aid posts and public health clinics across Afghanistan, treating over 7 million patients in the country. As COVID-19 spreads, these centres will be in critical need of support. We hope to raise enough funds to provide EMERGENCY hospitals with protective essentials like hand-sanitiser and face masks and to directly support EMERGENCY’s treatment of other vulnerable individuals.
