THE PROCESS
LA TECHNIQUE
Chaque tapis est noué à la main et il faut environ trois mois pour deux tisserands. Chaque étape du processus est entièrement réalisée à la main, de la filature à la teinture en passant par la teinture et le tissage du tapis, en passant par le lavage et la découpe du tapis jusqu'à une finition raffinée.
LA CONCEPTION
Conçu par Clara Le Grelle pour ISHKAR, ce tapis est l’un des trois motifs contemporains qui s’inspirent des principales rivières artérielles afghanes, l’Arghandab, le Hari et l’Amu Darya. Le Grelle note: «Ces tapis représentent un moment de la vie de ces rivières majestueuses et rendent hommage à la vie qu’ils ont répandue.»
PRODUCTION
Your design concept will be translated into a final technical design which will be shared with ISHKAR's team of weavers in northern Afghanistan to kickstart production. The carpets are woven entirely by hand by teams of up to three women, taking them approximately 3-4 months to weave, and 1 month to quality control, finish and ship. A standard size carpet might involve more than 1 million individual knots.
MATERIAL
The carpets are hand-knotted using Ghazni wool, a variety of wool unique to Afghanistan known for its luxuriant finish as well as its unique way of absorbing colour which gives the carpets Abrash - the technical term used to describe the mottled effect given by each strand of wool's subtle variation of colour.
