Mr Nasarullah in Afghanistan.
For two thousand years Herat’s distinctive coloured glass was traded along the length of the Silk Road. Today, Mr Nasarullah is one of the last remaining glassblowers in Afghanistan. Working out of a mudbrick workshop near Herat’s ancient citadel, Mr Nasarullah and his son, Khairullah, are helping keep this precious tradition alive.
But its not easy. With the local market for handblown glass drying up with the arrival of cheap Chinese imports, Mr Nasarullah is struggling to find new apprentices. Each sale of Herati glass will help build the stability he needs for his business to grow.
