The Craftsmen

Mostafa always looked up to his grandfather - a master craftsmen who worked with wood. As soon as Mostafa returned to Afghanistan  from Pakistan after the Taliban fell, he signed up for a three year woodworking course at Turquoise Mountain. Five years on and Mostafa runs his own successful woodworking business.

The Designer

Former head designer for India Mahdavi, Marie-Victoire Winkler has recently founded her own design practice. Growing up between Paris, Berlin and Rome, her work draws inspiration from a wide variety of creative worlds.

Inspiration

In 2016 Marie Victoire visited Afghanistan to create "the Walter table center" inspired by modern drawings of the Bauhaus School founded by Walter Gropius.

Impact

On top of the amount we pay the artisans, a further 5% goes towards the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Turquoise Mountain supports Afghan artisans by providing them with three years of technical training, as well as a full range of business support following graduation
