“This is the time for facts, not fear. This is the time for science, not rumours. This is the time for solidarity, not stigma. We are all in this together, and we can only stop it together.”Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghrebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation.
The situation is changing not only daily, but hourly. Our phones regularly vibrate with new updates of the number of people affected by COVID-19. There is so much uncertainty for so many at the moment. We would like to express our sympathy and offer our thoughts to those affected by COVID-19, both in the regions in which we work and at home.
Of course COVID-19 is having an affect on every industry, from toilet paper running out in supermarkets to macro-economic impacts. But of course, the travel industry is under scrutiny and pressure at a time of such uncertainty.
At the moment it is too premature to make assumptions about how events will unfurl in the coming months. However, we are remaining optimistic in our intentions to plan and deliver trips that are a few months away. We must remain resilient and robust in order to counter threats such as this.
At ISHKAR Explore, we are still ‘full steam ahead’ with planning for the coming months. This does not mean that we are not considering the outcomes should COVID-19 not be contained. Health security is fundamental to our planning, as much as physical security.
It is vital that we remain calm and rational, supporting those affected to be able to bounce back. If we were to stop business and cancel all that we do, we would be going against everything that ISHKAR and ISHKAR Explore stands for - to support industries cut off from world markets.
It is of our utmost priorities not only to ensure that our travellers remain healthy and safe when travelling with us; we take our responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus very seriously. Rest assured that we are following advice and checking alerts from the World Health Organisation (daily updates available here) along with conferring with peer companies.
We will continue to support the people we work with across the world and carry on delivering unique travel experiences. We want to ensure that you still have the opportunity to tell your own stories about regions so frequently misunderstood by the wider world.
Let's follow the words of Director General of the World Health Organisation: together we can fight back against COVID-19 and support all those affected.
