Story

ARTISAN

A seventh-generation Afghan master of traditional pottery, Matin Malikzada is internationally recognised for his technical skill and elegant designs. A native of Istalif, Afghanistan, once a vibrant center of ceramic art and commerce, Matin was forced to leave Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover. Along with his family, he is now resettled in Connecticut where he continues his journey as an artist.

In Kabul, Matin served as the head of the ceramic department at the Turquoise Mountain Institute and has shown his work around including at the Smithsonian Institute, Philadelphia Art Museum, Buckingham Palace, Japan International Museum, and Davos.

STORY

ISHKAR has been working with Matin Malikzada since 2016 and his ceramic works were known for being the best quality in all of Istalif. After Matin left Afghanistan in the wake of the recent Taliban takeover, we thought we would no longer be able to showcase these beautiful pieces so ISHKAR is thrilled to be able to continue working with Matin as he reestablishes his business in the USA.
